They are central to the productivity of the rehabilitation team because they enable physical therapists to manage more patients while ensuring that each receives appropriate supervised care. PTAs commonly pursue advanced certifications in orthopedics, geriatrics, or pediatrics, and many use the role as a stepping stone toward an eventual DPT degree.
Licensing in Florida
To practice in Florida, PTA candidates must complete a CAPTE-accredited associate-degree program, pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs (NPTE-PTA), and complete the Florida Laws and Rules examination.
